Victron Smart BatteryProtect 48V-100A

The Smart BatteryProtect 48/100 from Victron Energy (MPN BPR110048000) offers solid battery protection for 48 V batteries of various types. Compared to the previous series, the Smart version has an integrated Bluetooth module that connects the Smart BatteryProtect (SBP 48/100) to a smartphone or tablet. This allows you to program all the necessary switch-on/switch-off thresholds or set the appropriate value from 9 predefined thresholds.

The BatteryProtect 48/100 can also be used as a charge disconnect between a battery charger and a lithium battery. A wide operating voltage range of 24-70 V makes the device universally applicable. The option of connecting an external switch or alarm to the BatteryProtect makes the SBP 48/100 Smart the perfect battery monitor.

Output for delayed alarm

The alarm output is activated when the battery voltage falls below the preset shutdown value for more than 12 seconds. Starting the motor therefore does not activate the alarm. The alarm output is a short-circuit-protected open collector output connected to the negative (minus) rail. Max. current 50 mA. The alarm output is normally used to activate an acoustic signal, an LED, or a relay.

With its wide range of configuration options, the Smart SBP 48/100 is the perfect protection device for your battery, ensuring maximum service life. Most voltage converters or charge controllers have undervoltage protection, but this only kicks in at fairly low values. The higher this shutdown threshold, the longer you will enjoy your batteries, which are usually quite expensive.

Selecting the shutdown threshold

Depending on the battery type, different minimum battery voltages apply that must be maintained in order not to damage the battery. For AGM/gel batteries, we recommend setting the Batteryprotect to a 11.5V shutdown threshold. For lithium batteries (LifePo4), a 12.0V shutdown threshold is recommended. Depending on the intended use of the battery, it may be necessary to change these limits. Manufacturers also provide different information about their batteries. Therefore, always check with the battery manufacturer to find out which cut-off threshold is right for your battery!
