Hybrid inverters
Compared to conventional inverters, hybrid inverters offer the option of not only feeding the solar power generated into the electricity grid, but also storing it in batteries. This means that the stored solar power can be used even when the sun is not shining. Another function of hybrid inverters is to optimise a household's electricity consumption by primarily using the solar power generated directly in the household before it is fed into the grid. This leads to a reduction in energy costs and less dependence on expensive grid electricity.
Two MPP trackers for optimised solar yields
Maximum Power Point Tracker technology generates the best possible yield from a solar system. The MPPT determines the optimum ratio between irradiance, module temperature and solar cell type over the course of the day. Thanks to the two MPP trackers in the SPH inverter, the optimum operating point for the two PV strings can be optimised separately. The two trackers work independently of each other and so, for example, shading on one string would have no effect on the second.
Operating modes - Configurable according to system requirements
Normal mode (online mode + backup mode)
Different operating modes can be set to optimise the system integration of the SPH inverter. When entered directly on the device, a priority mode can only be set for one period. When using the online platform, up to three time periods can be set for the priority mode (a chargeable accessory is required to use this function).
- Load first: With the standard "Load first" mode, the connected loads (consumers) are supplied with energy first. As soon as the PV energy is sufficient for the load, the surplus energy is fed into the battery. If the battery is fully charged or none is connected, the remaining energy is fed into the grid.
- Battery first: In this mode, the inverter first fully charges the battery with the maximum possible solar power. If the PV power is not sufficient, the grid charging function can also be activated.
- Grid first: In this mode, the PV energy generated is fed into the grid first. The on and off time of the mode can be set here, as well as the power rate.
Fault mode: The smart monitoring system continuously monitors the system status and adjusts it if necessary. In the event of unforeseen events such as system errors or device failures, the error is displayed on the LCD screen. The LED indicator also lights up in error mode.
Programming mode: This mode indicates that the inverter is downloading or installing an update. Please do not interrupt the power supply until this process is complete. Once the update is complete, the SPH will automatically log out and return to the previous mode.
Check mode: Before switching to normal mode, the SPH switches to check mode to check its functionality. If no problems are detected, it then switches to normal mode. Otherwise, it switches to error mode.
Stand-by mode: Whenever there are no faults or no mode has been selected directly.
Switch-off mode: To switch off the SPH, all power sources must be disconnected. As a result, it automatically switches to switch-off mode. 1. switch off the PV input. 2. deactivate the battery switch. 3. disconnect the AC connections of the SPH, this will switch off the LEDs and the LCD. Wait 5 minutes after these steps!
Growatt monitoring platform
By using the optional accessories from the Shine series, you can utilise the Growatt monitoring platform. This platform is available as a smartphone app for iOS and Android as well as a web version. The Shine accessories must be purchased separately, but use of the platform is free of charge. Shine allows you to configure and monitor all your Growatt products and also allows you to view self-consumption and track trends.
The following Shine options are compatible with the SPH series:
- ShineWiFi-X
- ShineLink-X
- Shine4G-X
- ShineMaster

Note on Growatt inverters in use with batteries
Please note that the MIN, MOD, SPH and SPA series inverters may only be operated with original Growatt batteries. All Growatt inverters sold in Europe are not compatible with lead-acid batteries. Their use can lead to malfunctions or damage to the devices. Furthermore, no warranty claims can be made.
